He was married to Renee Anderson Cooper on June 1, 1974, and they welcomed Joseph “JJ” Cooper, John David Cooper (deceased) and Jenny Cooper to their family. He was also Papa to his girls and grandchildren in love Addison and Finley Schapley.
In his 70 years of life he had many roles and served in many capacities. Joey was an active member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Christmas Angel Tree ministry committee and other various committees as well as traveling to Belize to serve on mission trips. In the civic capacity he served on the Camden Park Board, JERA board, FYI board of directors, and the United Way board as volunteer.
He has served on the Benton County Board of Education for 36 years with the last 19 having served as Board Chairman. In 2020 he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Benton County School System for his service to the school system and community. He was a member of the U-Trust Board and was currently serving as Vice Chairman.
In addition, he was also a long-term member of the Camden Lions Club. In Lions Club, he served as the Leo Club sponsor at CHS, Flag Route captain and worked with KidsSight coordinated vision screening for school and daycare facilities.
Joey’s love has always been people. He didn’t meet a stranger and would help anyone who needed it, whether they asked or not. His favorite way to serve and his best legacy was showing love to everyone he met, giving hugs and smiles and making sure everyone knew he loved them so very much….and he did.
