Hillman Newton Wright

Mr. Hillman Newton Wright, 93 of Oak Ridge, TN passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. He was born on April 26, 1923 in Benton County, TN, the son of Ether and Beulah Stepp Wright. He served with the U.S Navy during WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater. He and his future wife both moved to Oak Ridge to begin work at the Manhattan Project and were among the first residents of Oak Ridge. Mr. Wright was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Faith Masonic Lodge #756. He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems where he was an experimental machinist at the Y-12 plant for 46 years. He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Wright was a history and geography buff and loved to travel, especially the back roads. He loved farm life and animals and liked to hunt and fish. He loved the state of Tennessee and was familiar with every county and the county seat.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Marie Gardner Wright, December 10, 2007 and by brothers, Charles, Tommy, and Eron Wright and a sister, Katherine Gregson.He is survived by son, David Wright and girlfriend Faye Overbey of Hampton, VA; daughter, Annette Wright of Oak Ridge; brother, D. M. "Shorty" Wright and wife Anita of Camden, TN; sister Janice Wiseman of Camden, TN; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, along with his many dear friends and his caretakers.The family will receive friends Thursday, September, 15, 2016 from 5-7pm at Weatherford Mortuary. With a service at 7 pm.The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Oakdale Funeral Home.Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Benton Memory Garden with Bro. Steve Douglas officiating. Navy Military Honors will be held at the graveside.
